Introducing PMI Netherlands Chapter Themes for 2021 & Beyond

PMI Netherlands Chapter Themes…

  • A way to bring focused Value, 
  • Clarify membership Benefits, and 
  • Increase our Connection to our organization

PMI NL Introduced Themes at the Members Annual Meeting held on 18 March, 2021.  

The Board has spent time thinking about results of our member surveys and our goals for the Chapter. Themes are a way of creating the kind of clarity around our value proposition that we hope you will find useful in the coming months and years.

Let's now look at the thinking behind Themes:

How were they chosen:

Themes were chosen based on:

  1. Membership surveys (PMI and PMI NL)
  2. Events focus for the year (e.g., Agile, 20th Anniversary)
  3. Our current and aspirational member population (i. e., young talent, increased diversity)
  4. The PMI goal of social good (e.g., UN SDG, NGO's)

What are Themes:

The Goal of Themes is to create a shared mindset among our members. Themes help to ensure consistency in our content and messaging. We will use Theme's both to set expectations and document our aspirations for our Chapter and our members. Board members will act as advocates to get input on Themes and refine them as we gain experience with the models use.

What is the model we will use to frame our Themes?

The PMI Triangle, which most of our members are familiar with. Using this model, we align to PMI's PDU Framework. As a reminder, the PMI Talent Triangle covers:

  • Technical- Project management practices, approaches, and tools.
  • Leadership -Team building, Interpersonal skills, problem solving, coaching and mentoring. 
  • Strategic- Business acumen, business models and structure, Planning, Operational functions.

Introducing the Themes:

  • PM Skill Builders- Bring skills to our members to help them future-proof their careers.
  • PM For the Future- Focusing on our aspirations for member diversity and social good.
  • PM for Business - Connecting PMI to local businesses, our members to the organization, and PMI NL to PMI Global.

How will see Themes used in practice: 

Themes allow us to tag initiatives, content, meetings & events to help members know what to expect from each; e.g., #Leadership #UN Goals or #Technical Skills #AI .

You will see these 3 Themes pop up in our Newsletters and Events to help you recognize the focus and the value we are working to bring to you.  

How long are Themes to exist?

The Themes model can go on indefinitely. Specific Themes themselves are generally planned to be in place for one or two years. Themes and future themes shall be a point added to future PMI NL annual member surveys to allow members to help us refine their meaning and purpose.

How to give your feedback on Themes?

The Themes will be a topic for discussion at our PMI NL Members Quarterly meeting in June, 2021.  Please join us and help us shape Themes for 2021 and beyond.
