Introduction of one of our volunteers: Nelson Takken

News

Hi, I’m Nelson!

Born in Costa Rica to Dutch parents, I grew up immersed in the Latin culture, giving me a blend of perspectives. Nine months ago, I permanently relocated to the Netherlands, where I'm actually enjoying the cooler weather.

My formation is in Electro-Mechanical Engineering, and I have pursued further studies in project management and business analysis. Over the past seven years, I've developed myself as a project manager, primarily working on software audits. What I love most about project management is its versatility—it's allowed me to contribute across various initiatives by giving me the tools to deliver results.

I'm deeply passionate about being a force for good. This has driven me to volunteer, from rescuing stray dogs and helping build schools to supporting sustainability practices and fostering economic growth for businesses. As Deputy Director for Volunteers and Members at the Netherlands PMI Chapter, I'm committed to elevating the chapter's contributions to the project management community and society as a whole.

The best advice I've ever received is to invest in education and personal growth—a principle I continue to live by. As the new year begins, I am focused on improving my Dutch, making a measurable impact through volunteering, and building meaningful connections.

I enjoy swimming, photography, and spending time with family in my free time. I'd love to connect and exchange ideas on strengthening this amazing community together!

Thank you!

Nelson H. Takken
