What motivated you to join/continue being part of the PMI NL Board?

Before joining the board I had already been volunteering as a mentor and member of the audit committee. As such, I was not completely new to the PMI NL Chapter. I enjoyed the energy and positivity of the PMI NL Chapter. At the time of joining the board I was also a member of the board for the Professional Accountants in Europe (PAiE) - Netherlands Chapter. I saw an opportunity to gain synergy by working with two organisations that promote continuous professional learning. 

The motivation to continue as a board member is clear to me, I feel that while giving as a volunteer that I always got a lot back. It is great to coach fellow professionals and to continuously learn from dedicated volunteers and board members. It is a joy to see others develop, get that new job or promotion, their success brings about a great sense of pride and joy. I feel quite privileged to help to lead the PMI Dutch Chapter in the year of its 25th Anniversary. I have had the pleasure to speak with inspirational past and present members.  The PMI leaders of today who are relentlessly managing change in every walk of life.

What is your role on the board, and what are you most excited to work on?

I am the PMI Dutch Chapter Treasurer and board member.  As Treasurer I form part of the DMT or Daily Management Team who have the overall responsibility as the three official board directors registered at the chamber of commerce for the Dutch PMI Chapter. As such, we have to fulfil the ‘fiduciary duties’ of the board members. Ensuring that we work within the articles of association, local legislation and Global PMI directives on ethics, health & safety, etc.

As Treasurer, I am responsible for ensuring the ‘financial health’ of the chapter.  As a non profit organisation we have to balance the books so that any revenue we may make is invested back into the chapter for the benefit of our members. I am responsible for tracking our spend against our budget and decisions that impact on our income to avoid a loss making situation.

I particularly enjoy three aspects of the role, namely coaching our PMI accountant volunteer and attending the weekly DMT meeting where we align a range of topics.  At the moment, I am most excited to work on the preparations for our 25th Gala and Dutch 2026 Summit in Amsterdam. 

What professional or personal experience do you bring to the board?

I qualified as a Chartered Management Accountant (CGMA®) back in 1996 and I spent a total of 12 years in finance roles with increasing levels of responsibility. I moved from finance to project management like many as an ‘accidental project manager’. I followed a lot of internal PM training programs with my employer and gained my PMP status in 2016 to officially become a PM.  In total I have 20+ years experience as a PM, Program and PMO manager.  I’ve worked as a business and an IT PM.  I've been working in Banking, Manufacturing and Logistics for major international companies.

As a father, husband and keen sportsman I like to think that I bring dedication and focus to the board.

What do you hope PMI NL members gain most from the community?

In a nutshell I would say continuous learning, positive energy and a wonderful network.

A fun or human touch: something about you people might not know.

Most people who know me, know about my passion for anything on 2 wheels, motorised or pedal driven. What many people may not know is that in my free time I love to listen to audible books and podcasts on history. I have a passion for 20th century history and the ancient Roman and Greek civilisations.  

25 years from now...

I hope that my loved ones and I are healthy and happy.  From a professional perspective, I hope that the project management profession and the thought leaders of today will be well on the way to solving the challenges that the world faces today. To stop and reverse global warming, with an era of geo-political peace and stability for all to enjoy
