Wow'd by the next Project generation

PM Research Award Presentations

Today I'm here to tell you an old dog can learn a new trick, and I learned five of them from the amazing speakers we had at the Zoekies award night on 26 January.

For those of you that don't know: 'The Zoekies' (The Dutch Project Management Research Excellence Award - or onderzoek) recognize the best and brightest of the Academic and Field Research done at Universities in the area of Project Management.

Sponsored by PMI and IPMA, a jury awards Master's and Bachelor's thesis Gold, Silver and Bronze Trophies. This year, we also added:
  1. Business Focus: Members can benefit from the research insights and apply ideas to their projects in the field. We now have a member voted Award for the Best Business Innovation as well.
  2. Better prizes: Winners now get cash prizes for all winners, the opportunity to take the CAPM course and test, and membership with PMI and PMI NL. PMI Education Foundation also provided presentation coaching sessions.
  3. Added transparency: The submission process is now more transparent. We also now allow students to self submit. Link here, and request to join the Zoekies for interested students or professors.
Heading into our 5th year, we hope these improvements will help shape the Zoekie Awards' future to ensure that excellence in project management continues to be fostered in the Netherlands.

So what did I learn? Here are my takeaways.

  • How is Bosch driving cultural changes to improve project success
  • The 3 things start-ups can do better.
  • The 7 C's to assess performance.
  • How collaborative data equals business success.
  • What Project Managers can do to increase their Client objectivity

But the detail is where you can operational these ideas. See the replay, including the slides, for more detail.

Congratulations to our Business and Academic Winners this year -

The Jury selected Academic awards are coming up in March. We will post information for those who would like to attend that session. We encourage you to do so, as the speakers will expand on some of the points raised during the January Q&A session.

  • Nynke Kemper, How Culture Drives Success
  • Helene Schnelle, How to unleash the power of impact and innovation
and
  • Dominique Berck, Breaking Through Data Silos, and the winner of our Business Award.  Watch her 5-minute post-win interview here.

We hope to post more interviews with the above winners of the Academic Awards in March.

But the Project Management Professionals are also the winners. Here is a quote from Wolfgang Baumeister, a PMP and event attendee:

"This demanding event was very valuable for both sides: the audience was allowed to benefit from studies and current knowledge. The speakers had the advantage of receiving direct feedback from experienced project managers. A very successful event and congratulations to the winner!"

Let's welcome 5 new PMI members as well.

Since each of these Zoekie winners will be joining PMI NL, lets look for them in our meeting and on social media. I have asked them to join us on social media, adding their voices to the conversation.

Listen to them, let's get them involved and hear what they have to say about how PMI NL can serve this next generation's needs.

Thank you all for supporting PMI NL Education Foundation and the Academic and Business achievement in research. This support ensures our business's lifeblood - talent and new ideas - continue to grow in the future.
