Bridging the gap between strategic plans and realization

News
PM for Business

In a world of constant change and disruption, portfolio, program, and project management bridge the gap between strategic plans and realization. Organizations may not call them projects (result or outcome-oriented endeavors) or programs (focused on realizing increased benefits by aligning multiple projects). Nevertheless, this is how product and organizational change happens and how strategy becomes the new reality.

Overarching these two functions, portfolio management allows business leaders to make decisions while maintaining a clear focus on the defined strategy, to meet organizational goals and objectives. In that way, portfolio management steers selecting and prioritizing projects and programs while considering external and internal change factors.

Within that framework, PMI provides many publications that can support organizations to create value by recognizing developments early and taking advantage of the expansive collection of knowledge resources to help organizations increase their effectiveness in strategy realization, like:

  • PMI's thought leadership reports on diverse topics prove the value of project, program, and portfolio management as a strategic business driver.
  • Pulse of the Profession is PMI's annual survey that charts the major trends in project management practice to help organizations work smarter. Every year Pulse features feedback and insights from project professionals, senior executives, and PMO directors from a wide range of industries worldwide.
  • Standards, Practice guides, white papers, case studies, etc.

To support organizations in our region, the Chapter has initiated the BIG-10 community. This brings together leading representatives of the 10 organizations that provide the highest number of members to our Dutch Chapter. As such, it acts as an exclusive community and, for these member organizations, a source of reflection and inspiration to 'translate' the global developments in our profession and PMI publications and reports to our Dutch region: Do we recognize these developments? What is the impact? What are opportunities and threats? How can we benefit from the Standards and Practice Guides? What can we do to mature our approaches to strategy realization?

We are currently preparing a transition to integrate the BIG-10 community into our Partnership program because we expect that teaming up with organizations will bring benefits to all stakeholders.

For our Partners:

  • The explicit recognition for the PM profession that organizations can radiate this way towards a competitive job market
  • The fact that the organization supports the professional development of its PM Talent by supporting membership and active contribution to the Chapter.

For the Chapter:

  • Building relationships and networks with leading organizations where our members practice their PM profession
  • Help our members better by understanding the needs of the organizations they're working in.

Strong collaboration and integration of Chapters, Members, and Organizations will create more value for all.
