  1. What kind of volunteer work have you done in the chapter?

Firstly, I'd like to start by saying that I'm very grateful and humbled to be a volunteer within the PMI Netherlands Chapter.

I joined the PMI Netherlands Chapter in July 2020 as a Membership Lead in the Membership & Volunteers team.

What I am most proud of in my time as Membership Lead over 2020 and 2021. My team….

  • Increased the Membership Survey response by 300%.
  • Led ‘sold-out’ Quarterly Members Meetings.
  • Developed and now driving the No.1 Chapter initiative – Membership Growth.
  • Awarded by PMI Global for its use of the Chapter Guest Pass Program.
  • Welcome, support, and answer questions of hundreds of members week-in, week-out.

Recently, I've been asked to take up the role of Acting Director of Membership & Volunteers and decided to go for it. In that role, together with a truly great team of volunteers, we will drive the membership & volunteers plan for 2022. Genuinely looking forward to making an impact together!

A big thank you to everyone within this wonderful community for your continued support along my journey!

  1. What made you want to be a volunteer, and were your expectations met?

I was inspired by the passion and enthusiasm of my PMP trainer, Anton Zandhuis (currently a PMI NL Chapter Board Member), so I decided to join one of the events organized at that time by the NL Chapter Membership & Volunteers Team. During that event, I met Peter Ryan (Director of Membership & Volunteers) and his team, who inspired me with their passion and impact they make every day in this local Chapter, so I became a member of the PMI NL Chapter in July 2020.

Starting in the Membership & Volunteers team was a great choice because of the collaborations with all other groups within the Chapter. During all these collaborations, I learned a lot about PMI, the Chapter, and myself, developing new skills on the fly. And that's the actual value of volunteering: realizing results, you can't do simply by yourself, supported and inspired by a great team of volunteers, with many different skills and experience (loads of experiences!); so, learning a lot while having fun.

Volunteering with PMI NL Chapter is an enriching experience for me, and the opportunities and benefits exceeded all my expectations.

  1. What advice would you give to others who are considering becoming a volunteer?

First suggestion, please reach out to us via email volunteers@pmi-nl.nl 😊

It’s important to get involved as a volunteer because good things happen when you get involved with the PMI Netherlands Chapter. Volunteer opportunities are available for everyone, no matter how much (or little) time you have.

PMI is a place where people who are actively involved in project management find a welcoming home. Volunteering provides a way for you to rapidly grow in a safe and supportive environment. Tailored for you, volunteering for the PMI NL Chapter is really a positive exchange, a win-win, if you will.

My experience is that volunteering provides priceless benefits, like networking with like-minded individuals, gaining skills and knowledge by having a safe environment to practice developing as a leader that might have been proven difficult to experience in a commercial setting.

So, just get in contact to see where you can join in. We are really looking forward to engaging you in one of our many Chapter volunteering opportunities.

I strongly recommend you visit our website, where you can search for the latest open volunteer opportunities. Enjoy!
