Knowledge Sharing Café - Reflection
Dear PMINL Chapter Members,
On Dec 17th, PMINL Chapter organized an event called "Knowledge Sharing Initiative". This initiative aims to create a virtual environment called "Knowledge Sharing Café" on Zoom where PMI chapter members connect with each other for informal collaboration, discuss things in real-time, create discussion boards and contribute to Q&A sessions, etc. The idea is to encourage all of us to learn from each other’s experience which might not be found in existing webinars or text books.
The kick-off meeting was fun and went very well. The meeting started with a short introduction of the purpose and principles, and continued with the examples of meeting format and subjects. Then the participants were invited to test one of the meeting formats. They were sent to Zoom break-out rooms where they used Zoom whiteboards to share and discuss ideas in smaller groups. After 20 min discussion, participants were pulled back to main room and the note-takers of the sub-teams presented their summary of breakout room discussions with all participants. With the final conclusions, the event was closed out at the end of 1 hour. Soon after this first kick-off meeting, the survey was sent to participants. The overall survey result showed us that most of the participants approved the meeting format tested (short introduction session, small group discussions in the breakout rooms and taking note on Zoom whiteboard in the breakout room). In the survey, among the subjects suggested by the participants for the next event, the following two came up to the top of the list: “Discussing Sour Projects (how to manage difficult projects) and “Future Trends in PM (the future of PM)”. The other survey results will be shared during the next event which is planned for early February.
In summary, this was an interesting experiment which worked out amazingly well! The participants liked the idea of meeting virtually to exchange their knowledge at the Knowledge Sharing Café.
