Chapter Meeting: Stakeholders - How Do You Do the Mapping?
Everyone has to deal with stakeholders. Sometimes they are evident and sometimes they are not. The challenge for you as a consultant (from project manager to product owner) is to successfully deliver your project or program. A success that is co-determined by stakeholders and their interests. With a stakeholder map, you create an overview of all the stakeholders that are involved. Also, it opens up a way for their interests to come to the surface.
But what happens after you have created a stakeholder map? Do you have all the information you need? Do you know what their interests are? And are you able to recognize those interests?
The stakeholder game “Are you the Pawn or Spy?”, developed by PROX6, provides more insight into stakeholder management. And it adds the element of a game. Through a case, you and your team will be introduced to all the stakeholders that are involved and will experience the important aspects of what it takes to manage your stakeholders in the best way. Aspects like what stakeholder management entails, why you need it and how you can use it. Moreover, you will experience the value of the discussions you will end up having, as every person has a different view on a stakeholder.
After you have played this game, you have become acquainted with an approach to stakeholder mapping. You will be inspired to look at and interpret stakeholders, their behavior and their interests in a different way.
All of this you can experience within one evening. Not by using a standard presentation, but by getting involved in playing the stakeholder game. It is informative, but above all, a lot of fun!
