Students

PMI Netherlands Chapter supports students who are interested in exploring or deepening their understanding of project, program, and portfolio management. Whether you are new to the field or already working on projects through your studies, we offer a wide range of opportunities to help you build knowledge, gain practical experience, and prepare for a successful career.

As a student, you can benefit from tailored training programs, internationally recognized certifications, professional mentorship, and access to a vibrant network of practitioners, both locally and globally.

Student Membership

Joining the Project Management Institute (PMI) as a student member connects you to a global professional community. Membership provides access to learning opportunities, events, and a growing network of peers and experts in the field. Student members receive discounted membership rates and can participate in both PMI Global and PMI Netherlands Chapter activities. This includes eligibility for certification programs, access to industry resources, and invitations to events designed specifically for students and early-career professionals.

CAPM Certification – CAPM4Students

The Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®) is a globally recognized credential that demonstrates foundational knowledge in project management. PMI Netherlands Chapter offers the CAPM4Students program to help students prepare for and successfully complete the CAPM® certification process while still enrolled at university.

The program includes professional training by certified instructors, support in registering for the official CAPM® exam, and a one-year PMI Global and Chapter membership. Participants also gain access to a network of peers and industry professionals.

CAPM4Students is currently offered in collaboration with the following institutions:

  • Hogeschool Utrecht
  • TU Delft
  • Hogeschool van Amsterdam (HvA)
  • University of Twente

Students interested in the program should contact the designated faculty representative at their university. For more details, visit the CAPM4Students page.

Online Learning Resources

Student members benefit from access to PMI’s digital learning platform. This includes self-paced online courses, downloadable templates and toolkits, and digital copies of foundational PMI publications such as the PMBOK® Guide and the Agile Practice Guide. These resources provide excellent preparation for certification and help students apply project management principles to their academic and extracurricular work.

Academic Recognition – Research Awards

In collaboration with IPMA Netherlands, PMI Netherlands Chapter organizes the Dutch Project Management Research Awards. This annual initiative highlights outstanding academic research in project, program, or portfolio management. Bachelor’s and master’s students from Dutch universities and universities of applied sciences (HBO and WO) are invited to submit their thesis for review.

Submissions are evaluated by a jury of academic and professional experts based on quality, originality, and relevance to practice. Finalists are invited to present their work at the awards event, and winners receive recognition and visibility within the PMI and IPMA networks.

More information is available on the Research Awards page (link!!!).

Events and Student Engagement

Throughout the academic year, PMI Netherlands Chapter hosts a variety of events for students and young professionals. These include guest lectures, panel discussions, company visits, networking sessions, and career events. The chapter also works closely with student associations and universities to deliver customized programming. Additionally, students have the opportunity to take part in international events, such as the IPMA Young Crew Project Management Camp.

These experiences allow students to connect with professionals, gain insight into the project management profession, and explore future career paths.

Mentoring and Peer Support

To support students in their personal and professional development, PMI Netherlands Chapter offers two structured support programs. The Mentorship Program connects students with experienced professionals who can offer guidance on career choices, project experience, and industry trends. The Buddy Program pairs new student members with peers to help them get oriented within the PMI community and begin building their network.

Further details about both initiatives are available on the Mentorship Program and Buddy Program pages.
