Building a PMO in Biotech and Pharma: From Vision to Implementation
Title: Building a PMO in Biotech and Pharma: From Vision to Implementation
What exactly does a Project Management Office (PMO) do, and how can it deliver value in the biotech and pharma sectors? In this 1-hour webinar, we explore where a PMO fits within these complex, fast-paced organizations—and how to successfully introduce one.
There’s no one-size-fits-all solution, and the path is rarely straightforward. Establishing a PMO is a challenging journey—one that requires patience, flexibility, and a willingness to evolve over time. Perfection isn’t the goal; progress is.
With a clear plan—starting from a maturity assessment and leading to a practical implementation roadmap—organizations can build a PMO that grows into a true center of excellence.
Join us as we walk through a real-world, more than two-year journey of building a PMO—from assembling an expert team to creating a centralized methodology, tools, and templates. Whether you're starting from scratch or looking to enhance your current PMO, this session will offer honest insights, proven frameworks, and lessons learned to guide your path forward.
BIOGRAPHY
Mirjam Foti is an experienced leader in project and program management within the biotech and pharmaceutical industry. Trained as a scientist, after completing her Master’s in Biology and PhD in Microbial Ecology, she worked for a few years as a scientist before transitioning into project management. Her career in the field now spans over 15 years, and she currently leads the PMO department at Pharming Group.
Starting out as a project and program manager, she quickly learned the critical dynamics of cross-functional teams—and realized that knowledge and structure alone aren’t enough to be an effective project manager. Earning her PMP certification gave her a stronger foundation and helped her build a more robust PMO function.
In her current role, Mirjam leads a team of expert project managers. Together, they work to bring more structure, clearer governance, and increased project management maturity to enhance collaboration, efficiency, and transparency across the organization.
Her contributions to the field are recognized through her active involvement in industry events such as the Why Summit and PPM Toolbox, where she shares her insights on portfolio and project management.
